The fiery and captivating Ruby is a stone of nobility, considered the most magnificent of all gems, the queen of stones and the stone of kings.

Ancients believed it surpassed all other precious stones in virtue, and its value exceeded even that of the Diamond. The Chinese Emperor Kublai Khan was said to have offered an entire city in exchange for a sizable Ruby.

Lab-created gemstones are not imitations. For example, diamonds, rubies, sapphires and emeralds have been manufactured in labs to possess identical chemical and physical characteristics to the naturally occurring variety.

Whether a gemstone is a natural stone or lab-created (synthetic), the physical characteristics are the same. Lab-created stones tend to have a more vivid color to them, as impurities are not present in a lab and do not modify the clarity or color of the stone, unless added intentionally for a specific purpose.

Sterling silver consists of 92.5% silver the other alloy being copper. Copper is used as silver alone is too soft and malleable, the copper is used to create strength in the piece. Copper reacts to its surroundings and the atmosphere.

Perfumes, hairsprays, swimming pools and hot tubs all increase tarnishing.

To help slow tarnishing wear sterling silver on clean skin frequently, the oils from your skin will 'clean' the piece with every wear. Avoid the above stated coming in to contact with your sterling silver. Always put your jewellery on last when getting ready and take it off first, don't exercise in your sterling silver or wear it in the pool.

Sterling silver is best stored in an airtight container preferably with an anti-tarnish strip.

To clean you can use dish soap or a small amount of silver cleaner.
